What aftermarket pups would be closest to the originals in my '08 American Standard Jazz??? - I'm thinking DiMarzio Model Js, but would like some other opinions, please... - georgestrings
Are you looking to match for a second bass because you love the way the 08 sounds? I don't think the Dizmarzio's have the same character as the factory Fenders, but I haven't compared those two specifically. If you can't simply get Fender replacements then I'd consider reaching out to Tom Brantley (formerly of mojotone and a Fralin understudy). He can probably make you some dead ringers for about the same price as the Dizmarzio's. Google Tom Brantley Pickup Rewind for a link.
Yeah, I'm looking to set up my other Jazz as closely as possible to my '08 - sound-wise, that is... Thanks for your post - I'll look into it... - georgestrings
Can you buy original Fender PUs? They sell pretty much all of their PUs as separate sets. My simple mind would be thinking this should be possible....
A 2008 Fender American Standard Jazz has the Custom Shop '60s Single-Coil Jazz Bass pickups installed in them, you can do a google and find them in a lot of places.
A 2008 American Standard Jazz does NOT have the CS '60's pickups, these were added starting with the 2012 and newer American Standard models. I own an '08 American Standard Jazz and I too was looking for a set of pickups that have a similar sound to the stock set. I was able to find a used set of the stock '08-'11 pickups on eBay for around $50. I also own a Highway 1 Jazz that has Dimarzio Model J's and they definitely have a different sound than the pickups in my '08.
Thanks for the input - that's the kind of info I was looking for... How would you say the volume levels are between your '08 Am St Jazz and your Model J loaded Highway One??? Can you describe the tonal differences, please??? - georgestrings
