As lots of people know, I like modding my inexpensive basses.
I have a Schecter C-4 (rated "Outstanding construction and Tone" by B/P magazine.) and after taking a few measurements I discovered that the front coils of each pickup sits in the exact same position as the coils of a Vintage Fender jazz. I then pulled the back plate off and discovered that there are 4 wires on the EMG HZs.
I installed a couple of push/pull volume switches and I now have the capability of isolating the "Jazz" coils or switching to Humbucker mode (or any combo there of).
The tone is VERY much like a hotrodded Fender Jazz due to the preamp.
I'm thinking that a lot of builders save time and developmental $$$ and simply duplicate the tried and true Fender Pickup positioning.
Take a few minuits and take a few measurements and add a couple of switches; You'll be glad you did.
