Hello! I recently acquired a bass that was sold to me as a 1974 Fender Mustang Bass. I bought it without caring too much because the price was really low even if it ain't a genuine Fender Mustang Bass. Nevertheless I would love to know the real "identity" of this bass. I took some pics of it and hope you guys can help me out. This was poorly refinished, I guess it was a natural but not sure.

thanks in advance for any info

Looks like the jack and pots were replaced and it was rewired. I'd refresh and clean up the solder joints since I see what looks like at least one crack where the cap joins the ground lug on the volume pot. On second thought, I'd just replace the pots and jack and rewire it properly, it's a bit of a mess in there.

  9. Authentic, original pickups to which is awesome. I sold a 70s mustang 2 or 3 years ago for $1000 so it sounds like you got a steal. I think it maybe refinished but dont quote me on that.

I still remember seeing a band in Pittsburgh years ago and asking the bass player what bass he was playing because it sounded so good -- really focused -- it was a 1970's fender mustang with flats! congrats

Other than the obvious rattlecan/housepaint refin (which you noted) that looks like you've got a mostly if not all original there.
