Fender Mustang PJ Chicago Music Exchange exclusive?

Dump the J p.u. and put the standard mustang split coil in there and i'm in.

 

Was a time that maple neck would've really piqued my interest, but they waited too long to offer it as an option and my preferences now lie with other designs.

These have been available for a few months now, I bought one. They are just regular Mustangs in a different color.

 

Hmmm , I had wondered what those Mustangs would sound like with a maple board. Any video reviews anywhere?

 

I love short scales but can’t deal with the boomy and thumpy sounding E string. Does the maple board cut down on that?

 

I have had major GAS for this bass for a few months now and really want to add a short scale to my collection. I'm really liking the black with tort guard + maple neck look.

I've had a CIJ and JMJ Mustangs and IMO the JMJ with LaBella MUS flats has a very sold E string, and due to the string through body and high tension of the LaBella's the strings don't feel floppy either. I always felt the CIJ had a hollow sounding E. It could have been the thinner neck on the CIJ, as the JMJ has a little Louisville slugger for a neck.

 

Never owned, or played a short scale to my recollection. - id want to mod it with stacked vvtt like in a 62 jazz bass. On 34” basses that I have played, my typical setting is back pickup 50% or so, and the master tone rolled off maybe 10-ish %...

 

That little Mustang is gorgeous, I had two years ago. It was nice, I just wish Fender had used their Noiseless Jazz pickup because that hum got on my nerves.

 

You can pick one up used around $100. Small price to pay if you really loved the bass.

 

Oh well, it’s long gone. Except D-tuners on four strings, I have never been big on mods. I like basses that come the way I like them.

 

I had the Sweetwater seafoam green version and I liked the sound of the pickups combined but the J was very weak solo’d and the stock toggle switch was very noisy when switching.

In the end, I sold it. But, I do like the look of the CME exclusive over the Sweetwater exclusive. They waited too long to put it out.

 

Maybe with some cream colored p/u covers....

 

I bet that would look great!
