Fender Nitro Finish Q

    What year did fender stop useing the nitro finish?

    Edit: I think it was nitro.. You know what I mean!

    Yes, they do. The Highway One is Nitro, some CS instruments and perhaps a few others.

    Nitro and Acryllics are both Laquer-based paints VS the Polyurethane finishes of most instruments of today. The first H-1s ('03) were actually shot in Acryllic Laquer, then later went to the Nitro-Cellulose Laquer like the '57 and '62 AVS US basses. There were also supposedly some Telecaser basses and guitars that were in Nitro as late as the early '70s, but that could have been due to slower sales and bodies already finished prior to the changeover.

    But if I'm not mistaken, CBS/Fender stopped shooting Nitro somewhere around '68 on their normal production models.
