    Hi,

I have a question for you Fender-knowledgeable folk out there. Keep in mind that I'm a complete Fender amateur, so bear with me :)

So, what's different between a standard Jazz and the Noel Redding J?
It's based on a mid-60's J model, ok, but what does that mean in practice?
The nifty pickup guard (the purpose of which I never fully understood)?

Also some general comments about the bass appreciated, I have one in a local store for about $600 used
(mind you, that's a relatively good price where I live, new MIM J's cost $500 over here).
I also have an option of buying a MIJ J for $320. What would you recommend?
I really am a relative stranger to these basses, but the playability feels great so I am prowling for mine :)

I would say if you have a ? about Fender, ask Fender. They have a web site with a contact link. Or if you want the hands on opinions of Fenderaholics, they have a forum too. I'm sure you can find it.
