I just put a set of fender original '62 pups in my pbass. They sound great but have a slight hum that only stops when I touch the volume or tone knob. I believe I wired them correctly but I am wondering if maybe something is grounded incorrectly. has this happened to anybody before? If so how did you fix the problem? By the way the pups are great!

  2. Classic grounding issue. Check that the grounding wire is secure under the bridge, and that everything is well grounded to one point on the bass. Check for cold solder joints.

Good grounding in a bass is something of a black art.

I'll take a look at that tonight.

right. that hum should go away when you touch the strings, too. there should be a wire that sticks out of a hole under the bridge, and goes to the back of a pot, so that the bridge itself is connected to ground.
