    Hiya

I'm about to get a 79 Fender Precision - black pickguard on black body with maple board.

I might put on a new PG as I'm not keen on black on black. I'd be really interested to see what combinations people have on here to help me with the decision.

    Many thanks!

I sold mine about a year ago. Hated the black on black. I put a pearloid pick guard on it. Reall cool look. I don't have any basses with pick guards now, but when I did, all of mine I changed to match the drums. Something stupid, but I have fun :p

It's not a Fender, but it'll give you an idea of how it'll look:

    (It's an '86 G&L SB-1 ... so, technically, I guess it is a Fender)

I'd like to point out it's not smudged/dirty. It's a matte finish, and it's almost 20 years old. Despite my best efforts, it still looks like someone fingerprinted it to death.

That's all Roger Waters plays these days.

  10. I've got a black on black P w/maple but the PG is B/W/B not just black.

It's the white trim the does it right.

The bass I'll use for example is my Modulus Flea, so take it with a grain of salt:

I've got a black body with black pearl pickguard, and it looks fantastic. IMO of course.

I have a black 2003 American P bass with 1/4 pounders, hipshot detuner, chrome ashtray bridge cover over a Bada$$ II bridge, and a chrome pickguard. Flashy in a motorhead, priest kinda way. :D

Thanks for all your help. I really do like the tortoiseshell on black. I think a silvery pearloid would be great too.

Cheers again - and keep them coming!

Black/Black/Maple looks tough, but to mellow it out this is where a mint or parchment pg would look nice. Really ties in with the maple neck.

I just bought a black/dark rosewood P w/black pg; it looks sharp but was just too much for me so I put the mint guard on. Little more boring/conservative with the rosewood, but also classy. But a tort sounds like a good idea in this case.

My black/maple P-bass will arrive in March. It's being made by some guy named Roger up in NYC. :)

I have lent a black/maple MM Sabre to a friend. I removed the pickguard, and without that the Sabre looks a lot like a P-bass. That was my #1 bass for years.
