A month ago I recorded these clips for my local forum, in order to see if people can tell the difference between Precision and Jazz. It turned out that they couldn't, at least no one was 100% percent accurate. The basses: 1. Fender Jazz bass (active EMG J Set - both pickups), new Dunlop nickel-plated strings 2. Fender Jazz bass (active EMG J Set - neck pickup), new Dunlop nickel-plated strings 3. Fender Precision bass, all stock, new DR Hi-Beam strings 4. Aria Jazz bass (active EMG JV Set - both pickups), older Elixir Nanoweb strings 5. Aria Jazz bass (active EMG JV Set - neck pickup), older Elixir Nanoweb strings And the recordings (in no particular order): 1. Bass 1.mp3 - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage 2. Bass 2.mp3 - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage 3. Bass 3.mp3 - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage 4. Bass 4.mp3 - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage 5. Bass 5.mp3 - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage Can you tell which is which?
I'm going to guess... 1. EMG J set, neck pickup. 2. Fender P bass 3. EMG JV Jazz, both pickups. 4. EMG JV set, neck pickup. 5. EMG J set Jazz, both pickups Or maybe 3 is actually the Fender P. I hear the stainless steel click on that one.
This is what I reckon 1 = Aria Jazz with Both pups & Nickels 2 = Precision 3 = Fender Jazz with Both pups & Elixirs 4 = Aria Jazz with Neck pup & Nickels 5 = Fender Jazz with Neck pup & Elixirs
here is my guess. both pup vs neck seems easy, but neck jazz vs precision is tougher than i thought. 1 aria both pups 2 aria jazz neck 3 fender both pups 4 fender jazz neck 5 precision
And you can tell that just from the audio clips? No, it's not - I would say that it is medium/medium-low, while a lot of other players say that I setup my basses with low action.
Hey Yugoslavia was....i mean is the best ! I can totally hear the difference in the J & the P sound. Jazz to me sounds better by miles.Ive got 4 basses with another coming & all of them have P & J configuration.I cant stand using them on there own. They compliment each other when they are set correctly concerning height adjusment.
I totally forgot about this thread . Anyway, here are the results: 1. Bass 1.mp3 - - Aria Jazz bass (active EMG JV Set - both pickups), older Elixir Nanoweb strings 2. Bass 2.mp3 - - Aria Jazz bass (active EMG JV Set - neck pickup), older Elixir Nanoweb strings 3. Bass 3.mp3 - - Fender Jazz bass (active EMG J Set - both pickups), new Dunlop nickel-plated strings 4. Bass 4.mp3 - - Fender Jazz bass (active EMG J Set - neck pickup), new Dunlop nickel-plated strings 5. Bass 5.mp3 - - Fender Precision bass, all stock, new DR Hi-Beam strings
Tristan was spot on. They all sound great but the Precision is just the raw tasty bass that you need a full band mix. Good one
