Price, condition and original parts all being the same, which one would you choose, an early 80" made in Japan version P-Bass or an early 2000's made in the USA version P-Bass.
    And Why?

Go USA. The newer MIA Fenders are among the best they've ever made. A previous MIJ bass I had (I know it's just one but it was my experience) sounded lifeless and hollow.

US, if for no better reason than resale value. But there's lots of other reasons.

  4. If it's an early Japanese JV serial number Fender then I would say no doubt about it go for the MIJ. If it's the MIJ Standard of the era than go for the newer MIA.

I'll try both first . If you are thinking of upgrading the pickup, I'll check the playability and feel. If you don't plan of upgrading the pickup, compare the sound also. That's the more important thing than where the bass was made;)
