I have been thinking of getting this Fender Standard P bass for $500 and I have heard them and played them at GC but I dont know if this is a ripoff or not. Anyone who owns one or has played one let me know what you think
That looks to be about 50 bucks off of a 'regular price'. not a ripoff, though you should be able to find a used p-bass for around 300. Depends on how well it plays, feels, etc.
Where I live, $350 is the regular price on CL, and anything under $300 is a good deal. If you don't like it, you won't lose any money re-selling it. Go used.
For $500, you can almost get a nice used MIA Fender P-Bass. Highway one or slightly beat up newer American special. I got my 2011 for only $625 delivered.
Yeah, for $500, a little shopping should turn up a good MIA Highway One or an MIJ P Bass on the used market... $300-$350 for a good used MIM P Bass... Another option is a MIM Deluxe P Bass Special - these can be had fro around $400, and are really versatile... Lastly, $200-$300 can buy a very good Squier P Bass - either a CV or a VM... I recently got an '09 Highway One P Bass for under $500, and feel that I got an excellent value for my money... - georgestrings
I bought a MIM P bass last December from zzounds for $475 new. It's a really fine bass. There is something to be said for the experience of playing a bass that no one else has owned before. On the other hand, you can find good used ones for less.
To each their own - I prefer to buy basses that are atleast a couple years old... not only do I save atleast 30-50%, but IME a neck that's atleast a couple years old has settled into where it's going to stay... - georgestrings
