    Hi,

I am a new bass player and is seeking some opinions on pickups. Recently I acquired a Fender P-J set and was thinking of putting them in my Ibanez.

The Fender pups are from a 2000 Hot Rod P-Bass, while the Ibanez ones are stock from a 1983 MIJ Ibanez Roadstar II.

I was surprised to find that the Fenders are built rather lightweight in comparison to the Ibanez. The Ibanez pups are a lot more weighty with big magnets and a copper (?) bottom plate. In comparison the Fenders' magnets are hidden and have a spongy material glued onto the bottom.

If anyone is familiar with either one of these pickups, I would love to hear your opinions (since I'm still waiting for the soldering equip). My Ibanez bass is nothing special, but are the old pickups better than what Fender is making nowadays?

    Thanks!
