It'd probably be better to ask this over in "Luthier's Corner", or possibly "Setup".........

Assuming you're using a neck fretted for a 34" scale length, you'll want the bridge to be placed so that the saddles are 34 inches from the nut. Before you measure, make sure the saddles are right in the middle of their adjustment range.

You cannot properly place the bridge by measuring the body - in other words, you can't measure another bass and assume that placing the bridge 1.75" away from the back edge of the body will be correct. The bridge MUST be placed relative to the nut.
