Did anyone catch Korn on the Metallica tribute on MTV2? His playing sounded more "clankier" than usual. Actually it sounded like he was beating on a tin can.

I didn't ask for a bunch of links dood. I kinda wanted to talk about his bass playing being akin to beating on trash can lids.

It's an honest mistake friend. Fieldy bashing is one thing, but his performance at the MTV tribute to Metallica is a thread deserving to itself.

yeah, that performance was pretty disgusting, i didn't actually realize how bad his tone was until i saw that, as i dont listen to korn much. i want to give him a soup can with a bead or a pinball or something of that nature inside and tell him to use that as an instrument. perhaps fieldy could get his own signature bass distortion called "trash can distortion"( i can just imagine it...it scoops out the mids, then it scoops out the treble, and then it scoops all pitch and note definition! its so evil sounding!). at least korn as a whole performed better than avril lavigne did with her sad, sad rendition of fuel. Snoop Dogg was just a joke, and the only way i found out that Limp Bizkit was playing sanitarium was when the screen behind them displayed the word "sanitarium".

To be totally honest, Korn's performance wasn't "that bad". I'm sitting there trying to be open-minded about Korn covering Metallica and trying to give Korn a fair shake, but Fieldy's bass playing was just pure noise. It's distracting from the song. It's annoying. It sounds like Oscar beating on his trash can.

The only performance worth a damn, IMO, was Aaron Lewis and the other guy from Staind (I don't listen to them, sorry) doing "Unforgiven". Avril doing Metallica? Please....

I promise you that if this turns into a big "Bash Fieldy" thread like all the others I will close it.

I really liked their arrangement, and the only part of the bass playing i liked was the part after "darkness, imprisioning me". That sounded sweet IMO of corse.

    Fieldy-Oww! that hurt!
    :D
I didn't see the performance, but I bet it was decent. Dream Theatre did a cover of Master Of Puppets, that was jaw dropping, except for the vocal's it wasn't totaly there, but the rest of the band was on fire.

the two guys from staind did 'nothing else matters', not 'unforgiven'. why does mtv, for a tribute to a band with metal in their name, have only one metal band play? Why were Avril and Snoop Dogg there? BECAUSE'S MTV'S GAY!

Who here has heard Fieldy's rap album? That was some killa stuff! He's a better rapper than bassist, though I suspect he does most things better than he does play the bass.

I just don't get how he thinks that that tone sounds good at all. He could be playing 30 year old bass strings, and nobody would be the wiser. That isn't bass playing, that's throwing strings on a piece of wood and smacking them. I like to be able to hear my bass sing, not the sound of metal on frets and that's is. One thing... an accugroov 21" woofer would work really well for him.
21Hz of pure low end trash.

  20. Actually i don't think he could play on 30 yr old strings. I think he would need new strings to get that clicking sound really going, the old ones might be too dull for him. Least that's what i thought.
