Yes, after months of online research, I did it. I ended up with a new SWR 350 head and an SWR Goliath Jr. III 2x10 cab. I ALMOST(kinda wish I did) got the BagEnd 1x15 coax I tried with the same head. The cab was SO sweet! Noticeably Warmer and just plain natural sounding...SWEET! ...BUT, I went with the SWR anyway. With the $$$ I saved on the deal, I can get the BagEnd cab anyway! I was amazed at how the SWR and BE outperformed the EA cabs though. Even the Edens didn't compare the the BA cab. I always loved Eden and EA cabs, but it really IS amazing at the difference. T. Alan
I never liked the sound of SWR heads (alone) without substantially better eq'ing. Yes, this is a personal opinion. I owned the 350 and without my 31 band graphic scooping the mids a little, it sounded mediocre to me. I was using 2 EA 110's at the time. The 350 also is not enough power to push the EA's cleanly. The Goliath Jr's at great cabs in my book and once I switched heads to a more powerful setup (Sunn 1200S), both my Goliaths and combination of EA's and Goliaths "woke up" and sounded great. I've sinced sold my EA 110's and now use 2 EA 208's and am much happier, but still use the 31 band eq but with the Sunn EA combo, I'm running much flatter and actually like the more punchy midrange that the EA's have compared to the SWR's. If you still have EA's, you need more power to make 'em sound right and probably a different head. Just an unwanted opinion LKaye "old Man"
i used to run that same rig! it's a monster! as for EQ i never used it much except to boost the bass a little to phatten up the bottom, and it always sounded killer. make sure you spend some time tweaking the tweeter attenuator, it makes a HUGE difference in your sound. congrats! jason
Thanks for the replys. I like the flat tone of the rig best...so far! I mostly like cranking the aural exciter for eq'ing. Cranking the pre gain gets a tone that makes my hair stand up though. I'll try boosting the lows a hair. I DO know I need to tweak the tweeter a bit. At the store, I liked it only on 2 or 3(if I remember correctly)-just enough to hear the skin on the strings. T. Alan
