After many weeks of starvation, self-neglect and severe cost cutting, i finally brought home my bongo.

What can i say, the thing is so damn awesome. want jaco? solo the bridge pup, boost both mids and cut bass. want JPJ? solo neck pup, boost bass and low mids and cut treble. want tear paint of the wall? both pups with eq flat. i seriously can't believe the low end on this bass. everyone posted about it, but you really have to play it to understand the low end. its just phenominal. the range of tones is just incredible, i love this thing.

but, no bass is perfect(lets be real about this).

the output is too damn hot. i am forced to use the -14dB pad on my GK(thank god its such an awesome amp), and that low end really eclipses everything else. i don't see why anyone would want to boost the bass on this thing, its just so d**n massive. a little string buzz when i dig in, nothing a setup won't fix.

it'll be interesting to see how it copes at a jam next week with some friends, or how it copes at church in a couple of weeks.

So, here it is, Stealth Bongo 5 HH.:D

    off to work now...

EDIT: pardon the pathectic photos, i can't take a photo to save my life.

    Very nice!

Love the look of the Stealth ones.

And yes, the output is pretty hot. However, you'll find that even with the volume turned down or a limiter going, it's still got a massive sound.

    Enjoy!! :D

  3. Congrats Ray, finally got a killer bass! ;)

I've played that thing, and yes it is one awesome bass!

All black bass in a Church, that'll go down well :p

The Stealths are by far the best looking of the Bongo's I've seen.
    Congrats on the new bass!

The Bongo is the first bass I have to use with the volume knob at half (plus my amp's pad). I didn't want that at first since all of my previous instruments produced a little hum with volume at a position different than full, but this bass is so quiet that it hasn't been a problem for me. It's definitely an awesome instrument. Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the Bongo club!

BTW, for band situations, the only band I cut (it's normally at about 70%) from my fretted Bongo is the low mids. Everything else is full blast. I like that. As the wise Bovinehost said: "...and suddenly the first five rows are losing dental work and all cartilage turns gelatinous. Do not play this around sharks or rays. It\'s big, it\'s fat, it\'s a Bongo and you want one." :bassist:

    Congrats!!

I wish that Bongos came with Maple boards, though. That stealth body with a maple board would be even more cool looking, if that's even possible.

    More Pics!!
