Fingerweights for speed

Discussion in 'Technique [BG]' started by Mr M, Jun 6, 2002.

  1. Anyone who used fingerweights sold at musician's friend to develop speed? Does it work? Thanks..

(yes I know, the best way to build speed is to practise, practise and practise.. :D )

    Waste of money.

Like Gary Willis said in his video, your fingers have all the strength they need since you were 3 years old.

Dexterity is what you're after, not strength.

Practice on the bass, and you're on the right path.

I'm with JMX (Jeff Berlin thinks they're useless for speed increase, too).

I tried them for a while, (luckily they weren't mine), and didn't see any value. I guess the theory is flawed --- we don't see weightlifters running the 200 meter dash in the Olympics.

Speed is about dexterity and developing the neural pathways to achieve it through practice.

    No.

The only way to get faster is to practice.

  5. Thanks for the replies..

Mr M returns to his practices and begins to search another magic to develop speed without practising hours and hours :D :D

The key id to use a lighter touch to play faster, so you play with just the tips of your fingers to stroke over the strings rather than actually plucking.

    I love it!
    The "neural pathways"-
    That's the key, IMO-
    Thinking fast.

    ...Plus economy of motion.
    Note: I didn't say "light touch". ;)

  8. I have a set of Finger weights and they are great.
My car didn't come with cruise control so I slip off my shoe and sock, and wrap the weights around my toes.
It makes the drive much nicer.

    I got one.

    Use the force

  12. I use the force to make the drumkit and drummer fly on stage at the gigs (don't tell this to Master Yoda ;) ) :D :D
