    Hello,
I bought a 2nd hand Yamaha TRB 5 II and found out 2 cracks on the body, close to the junction with the neck on both sides:

Is there any way to understand if the cracks are affecting the wood or if it is only in the finish (which seems pretty thick) ?

    Made in Japan

    Thanks,
    Thomas

That's a pretty common place for the finish to crack... My used Lakland Skyline J has one finish crack in a similar spot. Mine needed a little TLC on the frets and nut when I got it, so I just asked the luthier to look at it when I dropped it off. If you're going to try and explore it yourself you will probably need to take the neck off.

  3. Every one of my basses has finish cracks there, from my USA G&L to my Squier’s…
