Hi, I stripped a fire damaged carved double bass and would like advise on finishing it. My 'day job' is as a decorative artist/painter and so I have experience w/furniture and solid electric guitar/bass finishing, but need information related to applying a protective 'varnish'. I realize that luthiers have their own secret recipes but there must be a tried and true method/materials for getting this done. Any light you can shed on this will be greatly appreciated.
