hello! I am in the process of uplifting my first bass and have A maple neck for the build. I stained it with tru oil and love the way it turned out! I am now debating wether or not to put a clear coat on it or if the tru oil is enough to keep it protected. Anybody have any recommendations? Thanks!

  2. Just as a point of clarification Tru Oil isn't a stain, it is a finish. I have many necks where that is the finish and they are all wearing fine. I put 10-15 coats of Tru Oil on, take down the shine with steel wool then put a coat of wax on. My necks are super slick and never sticky.

If you do put a clear coat on it, you have to be sure that there will be no interaction between the Tru Oil and the finish you use, I would do a test piece. Especially make sure the Tru Oil is completely dry, as once you put the clear coat on the Tru Oil can't dry or gas off.
