Woke up this morning and smelled smoke. It smelled like burning vegetation so I knew my house wasn't on fire. Checked the back yard, nothing burning there. Went outside in my pajamas and the everything was smokey.
I thought there must be a fire in the neighborhood. Then I found out there are lots of fires up in Napa and Sonoma county roughly fifty miles northeast of here. Read there have been evacuations.
I thought "Holy smokes, I have friends up there."
So far everyone is okay. A few friends have been evacuated but they have a place to stay. When I left for work my wife was still calling and checking on people.

What's the deal with your state always catching on fire?

    Too many hot tempers? :D
We are pretty dry here in California compared to the EAST Coast. We seldom get summer storms like I experienced in Boston and other places. I remember driving through the Carolina and being amazed that there was green grass in the summer without sprinklers.
Not sure if that is the reason, just a guess.

  4. Arid climate with lots of fuel.

  5. I was shocked this morning when I got the text from my dad that my hometown of Santa Rosa was burning away. The videos I've seen are terrifying.

I live in Cotati, which is just a few miles south of the Santa Rosa fire. My ex wife sent me a text at 3am telling me that her and my kids were evacuating, and my parents had to evac a few hrs later. My family is safe, thankfully. My parents house should be ok, no word on if my ex and kids still have a home. So many people are homeless now. It's all very tragic.

I recommend pepperoncini as a dietary supplement.
Does it smell like Humboldt county is on fire?

Seriously, I hope everyone is safe.

Several people I know well lost their homes... my home in Graton is still ok. My partner is packed and ready to go. I'm 1000 miles away at the moment. :-(

Yikes that's too bad, all of these people coming back to no home. As long as they keep safe, rebuilding is feasible when you are still there to do it. And I love my Cabernet from California.

From what I've read, because the little fires are extinguished, small combustible stuff builds up, and when it goes, there is just a lot of fuel.

    Prayers to everyone out there.

  18. My Grandpa lives in the hills of Bennet Valley and I'm really hoping that he's ok. My buddy told me that Maria Carillo high school is ash right now and that's really not all that far away from there. @crucislancer any idea how its looking over there? I can't get a hold of him, thanks.
