I just bought a Fender Jazz Deluxe 5. The low B sounds good to me. The Fender Jazz 24-5 is also a nice 5-string in that price range.

Ibanez SR505. A good solid bass, lots of people have em around here.

If the B string is floppy, try a thicker guage string. A .130 B string usually does the trick.

This one. MTD Z5. Can't go wrong with a Lakland 55-01 or 55-02 either.
  12. I dont think he can pick up a new Z5 for under $750.
I am holding out for a new special edition Z5 due out in the next 3 months.

get a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5 string.
  14. Schecter is a fine bass for the money. I have a 5 Custom. My only issue with it is the string spacing is too narrow.
