It's been almost 18 mos since my last "real" gig. I've been "house bassist" for some jam nights and such but nothing regular.
This is also my first gig with a band playing jazz. It's a huge opportunity for me to learn, and play in a genre that I've only dabbled with. I'm pretty inspired, and my practice routine shows it.

Here's to a fun gig playing good music with great players.

    Hi,

Sounds like a fun outing. Will you be reading charts/fake books? Fakebook gigs are among my favorite. Four or five good players with fakebooks can play a couple hundred songs without a rehearsal. Everyone reads it down, pass around a few solos, back to the head, and out. All my jazz gigs have been low pressure and had great food. I hope you have a fabulous time. Break a leg!

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

I'm back... and all in one piece.
@BassCliff it wasn't a realbook gig - all "off chart", mostly the BL's compositions and some funky arrangements of a few standards.
Considering it was the third time we've all played together it went pretty darned well. A few errors here and there as we all settled in, but good music was made.
Friends took some video, so I should be posting some later.
Meanwhile, first photo. Small stage, so of course you can't see the bass player... Only my hat, my ear, and the tip of my headstock. :D

I am a hobbyist making stone picks that I occasionally sell but mostly give away. They made me do this anyways.
It's always good to get on stage. On to the next performance!

@dbase - glad you enjoyed it and listened through. Tip jar didn't get filled but this was more of a "live practice" than anything else - small club on a week night. Appreciation was high from the folks who were there, though.

@buldog5151bass you are spot on - I'm in a huge phase of musical vocabulary expansion. It's really cool and really fun.

    Thanks for listening.

    I enjoyed that...Thanks.....

One question though....Is your bass on a stand of some kind?.....

It doesn't seem to move when you do....:D

It's my mastery of The Force... :D
Actually, it's a stand - called the Mbrace. It's great. Bass weight is no longer a concern at all.

I know that room! I used to live in Hayward and have performed a number of times at the Bistro. Can be a fun little bar - especially on the weekend gigs.
Great sounding group. Kesslari - if you have any upcoming gigs at the Bistro, please send me a PM. I am just over the hill in Pleasanton now, and would be happy to come put some $$$ in your tip jar.
