    'Ello Music Lovers,
New guy signing up, been lurking for a while, I love this place! I gots a day job, play in 3,4,5 bands at night... if the gods smile upon me favorably ( and I work my butt off) I may be able to quit the day job and just do music in the coming year. We'll see.
    I have:
    (photos to follow)
1972 P bass- originally a cream white color w/ tort guard, maple neck/board, has aged/smoked to a yellowy/smeary cream, now sports an anodized gold guard. Original p/u had a broken winding when I bought it, rewound by Dan Torres in SF Bay area, next had a DiMarzio P, dropped in an EMG in about '85, been there since. Has a Badass II and Hipshot drop D tuner. This is my special baby, will never leave me...my first good instrument (first bass an EB-3 knockoff). I got her in 1979 for $175.00...yeah, nice price. Sounds like a beautiful sounding P bass.

Mid 90's Ernie Ball Music Man- natural finish, rosewood board, clear pickguard. Purchased used from GC from a friend who worked there at the time, can't recall the price, I think it was around $400-500 ( I have receipt buried somewhere). Nothing changed aside from the pickguard, also has drop D tuner (came with it). Excellent playing and sounding 'Ray.

2010 or so Epi T-Bird-dark red' burst, all stock. Purchased for $300 w/case used. I play in a Cure tribute band, I got this from the previous bass player in band, I pretty much only use it for those gigs...have used in my alt rock band, but a bit wooly for some of the stuff I need a bit more treble for, also has unadjustable strap/straplocks set pretty low for Cure/S. Gallup style, not comfy, not how I normally sling it. Nice looking, plays well, pretty skinny neck, needs a drop D tuner ( I love those things)

Late 90's Squier P bass- not sure of exact color, a dark blue, but NOT the Midnight Blue, rosewood board, originally had 1 ply white guard, switched to a 3 ply Fender tort guard (INSTANT appearance upgrade), and dropped in a SD vintage P bass p/u. My bro in law used to janitor at Fender Corona, he bought it w/ emp. discount cheap, (I think $60-75), it was a second, had a nice dent in the back, otherwise flawless appearance. He doesn't play, traded to me for a new Hohner Marine Band harmonica (another nice deal!). It is a nice coupla pieces of wood, resonates well, feels great, nice neck, had more throaty rock roar than my '72, and it's sleeper with the p/u that's in it. Nobody wants to steal it, "it's only a Squier" (knock wood). I had flats on it for a long time, used in my R&B type band, it is a funk MACHINE with flats, has a great warm tuba-esque tone. Has some sort of wiring issue right now, volume pot is wiggly, volume drops, changes, gotta get it looked at ( I kinda miss playing it and getting flak from snobs about it's geneaology).

1999 or so Warwick STD 5 string. Dark Brown stain, not sure of neck/fingerboard wood, "the usual dark Warwicky stuff", original p/u's (NOT MEC), added the Aguilar pre, I think the 2 band. Christmas gift from my lovely wife back in '99, total surprise, I was eying a used MM 5 but she beat me to the punch. Sorry for lack of details, it's been in gig bag for years, haven't had any need for the B string for a while, and I'm so used to 4's, I still get mind-boggled sometimes when I touch a 5. I had used it for original hard rock band that downtuned to B, I had my '72 P bass setup for BEAD until I got the 5. It sounds great, nice and woody like a Warwick should, it was anemic passive, when I had the Aguilar pre installed, it roared to life. This is the low line STD at that time, no MEC's, no pre, not the brass adjustable nut, has a plastic adjustable one that I broke when the bass fell over, has had a piece of paper shimming up the B string side for years (eyeroll). I've been toying with breaking it out for the commercial poppy dance band thing I do, but we haven't had to go below D...and the B ends up being a thumbrest that throws off my puny brain.

I been lurking around here compiling info on Jazz basses, 'cause I gotta have one. I need another tool in the box, and I'm craving some Jazz tone. Have never owned one, I never really liked the skinny necks down in half/first position (just a term, I'm no schooled moosishun), but I'm ready now (the T-Bird helped, skinny guitar-like neck). I'm gonna dip a toe in, price-wise. I'm looking at getting a MIM, black body, rosewood board, gonna add the tort guard, I will be in heaven. Looking at used stuff here, CL, I'm not an E-Bayer but did look. I have a buddy who's a GC mgr, may just order what I want from him if the price is right.

Will get some pics up of me girls... stop by and say hi, Mildew :)

    Peace, Love, Bobby Sherman,

Oh, they're comin'... at the day job, had a wifey Xmas party last night, no gig tonight so I'll get to photographin' tonight. OK, a little help here? Trying to filter out the sold instruments, doesn't seem to give that filter option (the green/red buttons for sold, etc) if I put in a specific search request (MIM Fender Jazz).

    Thanks,
    MJ

Forgot to mention bass rig. A mid 90's Eden Traveller 30w head (before the defeatable comp.) thru 2 Markbass 2x10s, the ported ones, 400w capacity. Will probably get a Markbass 800w head this year, put the Eden in the music room with the 4x10 it used to run thru.

    Pics...

    Welcome to the Tb community!
It's been a tremendous asset to me over the years, from valuable technical information, to incredible gear purchases and last but not least, a chance to make new friendships with fellow bass players!
