A friend of a friend asked for a bassline for a hip hop track so let me know how you think it turned out. I based my approach on the song sherane by Kendrick Lamar which has a killer bassline.

It's pretty busy but he asked for it, but plenty tasty though.

G&L L2000 into Motu 828 MkII with Guitar Rig 5 "precise bottom" patch tweaked a little bit. Elixir strings, all knobs on bass were cranked, passive, bass boost setting.

There is the mixed track as well as the solo bass take.

    Thanks!

  2. Yeah indeed busy but it's a great line! I like the vib and mix. Keep it up!

I like it! I think it really adds to the feel of the song. Sounds very cool!

Nice. I don't think it's too busy in the context of the music. It is a bit up in the mix though. Could scale it back some. Boost that 808 kick a bit.

    Thanks for the comments guys!

DW, the reason the bass is so loud is because I only made it to show the guy who wanted it how it sounded in the mix. I sent him the WAV files and he is going to mix it down. I am not even sure who the beat is for the the guy mixing is a pretty well know guy who has worked with Pitbull (I know...it's a big name though) so maybe this song could go somewhere!

    Too much hip thrust
Sounds good! I had some fun playing hip hop for about 2 years with some friends. Prog metal is my primary focus but I learned a lot about using a lighter touch via hip hop.
