    Help!
I'm a pro EB player. I have a nice quiver of vintage/high-end bass guitars, and I get around pretty good on my guitarron, having studied the trad technique a bit. I have for many years done a good "faux-upright" vibe on my electrics to get by. And, when I've had an upright as a loaner, usually got comfortable pretty quick and at least fooled a few listeners;) (no bowing, mind you . . .)
But the time has come---I wanna buy a doghouse. My application is acoustic, folk-based pop, and americana and hip hop, and then on to my dub stylings.
In other words, what should I look for, and can it be had for around 1500-2000 bucks?

    Gracias

I made the same move a couple years ago. Check out the newbie links above, and find yourself your closest DB store. You will need setup work on any bass, and it's great to develop a relationship with a specialist early.

I went with a Shen SB80 from Arnold Schnitzer and have been very pleased (both with Shen and Arnold), and it came in within your budget (on the lower side of it actually).

    Good luck!

There are several links regarding shops in the LA area.

In my recent travels to the LA area, I have visited Stein on Vine (Hollywood?), World of Strings (Long Beach), and Lemur (San Juan Capistrano).

All three had plenty of DBs to try out and offered great advice with no pressure to buy.

I know there are a few others that I am sure you will find out about.

You should work with a shop that will do the set up for you. That way you can try it out before and after the setup to be sure you are happy.

In the price range you mentioned you can also check into ordering certain models of Shen, Christopher, Upton, and any Engelhardt. You can find plenty of advice in the newbie FAQ section.

    Good Luck!
