  1. Dunno if this would be better suited for Effects or Recordings, but...

What effect is being used for the bassline of Parliament's "Flashlight"; particularly for those freaky high vibratos? Or is that a synth line? Whatever it is, it's so cool! [insert "FUNKY!" smiley here]

It would really surprise me if that was an electric bass.

    Atlanta (Grant Park!)
Gallien Krueger for the last 12 years!
It was a song originally written for Boosty. One day Bernie Worrell was messing around with the bassline on his keyboards, and George heard it and had a change of heart, so he kept the song for the Parliament album "Funkentelechy vs. The Placebo Syndrome". Boosty is playing drums on the song.
  4. Yeah, it's a synth bass played by Bernie Worell, but the bass line could most definitely be played on a regular four or five-string bass with a little fuzz and an auto-filter/Mu-Tron. There's a great live double CD of the P-Funk All Stars from the early 90's out on Westbound that ends with "Flashlight" and has the bassline played on both synth and bass guitar.
  5. One of my favourite albums. Dennis Chambers on drums too...Best version of Atomic dog by far.
