My bass teacher wants me to replace my Helicore Mediums (orchestral) with Flexocor Originals. I don't have a complete set of Flexocors; however, I do have a set of Flat-Chrome (I believe the new version, with the lavendar/purple & white windings). Is the Flat-Chrome comparable to the Original Flexocors? She wants me to use a darker set of strings. We're talking orchestra playing here (BTW, however, I have a set of Permanents on my five-string and I find the string wonderful for the 5-string both for orchestra and pizz!).

    Thanks for your comments,

    Brian

  2. Hi Brian.
I sent you a private email about this...

However, to give a public answer, the (new) FlatChromes are completely different from the Original FlatChromes.
The former are thin and bright (designed as a 'hybrid' string, for both pizz and arco playing) while the latter are thick and warm sounding. (well maybe except the G which is quite bright...)
The (new) FlatChromes have a ruby red twist on white silk.
The Original FlatChromes have a purple (violet) twist on white silk.
