Pardon my ignorance - this must be really basic -

I'll be playing a show and I need to send a flat signal to the board, so -

My MTD is an active bass, so is it considered 'flat' when the tone controls are all up at full volume, or when the tone controls are set at the center 'detent'?

Detent. Usually if they have a detent, they're cut and boost, therefore the detent is neither, so that's "flat"

If they don't have a detent, more than likely it's a boost only circuit, and all the way down is flat.

Thanks, TPLyons, that helps a lot. Makes sense too.
