Flat-wounds on acoustic-electric?

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by 1gneissguy, Jul 10, 2014.

  1. Is there some good reason why I should not use flat-wound strings on my acoustic-electric bass? When I look at the posts on the string forum, it seems all the flat-wound users are using them on electric basses. I just got a new Breedlove acoustic-electric, strung with round-wounds, but I like the feel of the flats.

I've got the on two of mine. They sound good.

  4. Flats sound fine on an ABG. Way better than most of the phospor bronze ones do. Well, at least for my tone and tastes in music.

While you're at it you might consider black tapes. I've got LaBella 750N strings on my Tacoma Thunder Chief and they are great.

    Hope this helps.
