There's been a lot written about ampeg flatback 810 cabinets, regarding speakers and tone. Outside US original CTS speakers are hard to find, let alone flatbacks themselves. I have a VR and I would like to get a flatback cab but since they're so rare in EU I was thinking of fliptops replica. They're offering legend b810 and mod 10-50 speakers for that cab.

I'm wondering if anyone AB'd b810 and CTS speakers? Legends obviously handle more power which is convenient if I want to use one cab with SVT but how close do they get to the tone of CTS? Are there any recordings, songs, youtube links or anything else representing that classic SVT/flatback sound?

To save you some time - though Chris' experiments are really worth a read - I have had both the stock CTS and B810 in my flackback 8x10. The B810s I bought I actually bought from Chris after all the testing he did in that thread.

The B810 definitely won't get you that exact tone. They lack the highs of the stock guitar drivers and have more bottom. If you mixed in a pair of the Jensen mods in the top chamber or did 50/50 with the Jensens you'd probably get much closer to the sound without bottoming out the cab as much. I think I'd go 6/2 if it were me. For now, the B810 does a pretty decent job. The one place I really notice a difference is running any kind of overdrive/distortion pedal through the cab, the B810 is just stiffer and more modern sounding. Trade offs.

I'd really like to try to webers, they're supposed to be much closer. I just don't want to drop the cash to test out a whole cab full.

Somehow missed that T/S thread, so much info on TB. That was really helpful, thanks to both of you.
