Is it smart to use flatwound strings on a fretted bass?

It will make your fingerboard last longer, but will not get as much mwaaahh as roundwounds do.

  3. The combination of a bent metal bridge, a softer body wood like alder, and flat wound strings will make a BG more percussive and have less sustain. This is good for some styles of music and bad for other styles.
