Flats on a coated fingerboard?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by AudioDwebe, Feb 4, 2016.

  1. For some reason I equate a coated board with rounds and a brighter tone.

I've never tried it, but UPS brought me just that. At least I don't have to be concerned with dead strings. Can't wait to get home and give it a spin.

I have a '76 Precision with a white neck. It's heavily poly coated. No problems with any string flat or round. Been strung in flats for the past ten years or so.

    If it's a fretless.Then yes!It will give you a brighter "Mwah"

    Fretted?Don't know about that.
  4. I guess maybe it's the whole Pentabuzz kind of thing. I equate flats with wood for warm and coated with rounds for that bright sound. But clearly no rules really apply.
