At the moment I got a set of D'Addario Chromes 40-100 strung on my fender jazz bass. The strings had been on the bass for around 1 year but i looking to replace them with a set of round to try something out in term of sound for my bass. I had my bass set with low action, so if i buy a set of string for example rotosound, what string gauge should i get to get the action as close as before? Not sure if i ask this correctly or not.
I currently use D'Addario Chromes Flats 40-60-80-100 (ECB84). I would suggest you try 45-65-85-105 with rounds to get something similar in tension and stiffness. Before I discovered the joy of flats, I used to use D'Addario EXL165 Nickel Rounds (45-105) and liked the overall feel - not too stiff or too floppy.
