Hi Bass players, Yesterday I picked up a 1993 Pedulla Thunderbolt 4 string. I have about 10 minutes experience playing bass and think I might light the sound and feel of flat wounds. Can I get get some suggestions of brands and sizes that might be appropriate? Thanks!

A newb with a pedulla. First of all..RRRRRRR. JK. ;) Flats are going to give you a traditional, warmer tone but won't cut through nearly as much as rounds. As for sizes, it really depends on what you're looking for. The lighter the string, the lighter the tone in my experience. I usually go with Medium 45-105 as I find that A) I prefer the feel and B) I find that gauge very versatile (IE You can tune down comfortably, lots of tonal variety, etc.) It really all comes down to your needs, wants, and preferences. I don't play flats very often but when I do I play DR Hi-Beam Flats. Check out Welcome to Bass Strings Online - Your Custom Bass String Shop... and have a look around.
