I own a 97 flea bass with a Lane Poor Pickup and a Bartolini preamp. I've been thinking for a long time about switching the preamp to an Aguilar OBP-1.

Would that really make much of a difference in sound though? I guess what i'm asking is, is it worth it?

Plus, are they easy to put in or would i have to have a pro install it?

Never played either but I believe the Aguilar has its treble frequency at 4 kHz and the Bart is at 6 kHz. I would choose the Aguilar there.

The Aguilar will take two batteries (18V only).

    The Aguilar is boost only.

I have a Sadowsky pre that is voiced at frequencies similiar to the Aguilar and is boost only. I like it fine. However if you can fit the 2nd battery in your space, the Aguilar will only run around $100 while the Sadowsky is closer to $250.

You can run the OBP-1 with just one 9v. I've done it in more than one bass.
