Fleabass Junior upgrades for MM impersonation?

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by newworldman86, Aug 7, 2012.

  1. I have recently acquired a Fleabass junior. It plays fantastic, however it's tone is a bit lacking, which I expected. My goal with this bass is to get as close to a Stingray's tone as possible. I have heard many demos with the Emg DC35, and I find it to be a bit too harsh and bright sounding for my tastes. I really like how a string ray or bongo can sound with the treble rolled a bit off and the bass boosted. The best options I have seen so far seem to be...

    1. SGD ND3-35
    2. EMG CS
    3. Nordstrand Double Coil
    4. Get a dremel and make room for a MM sized pup

The question is, can any of these DC35 sized pups pull off a good stringray or bongo impersonation all by itself? For the preamp I will most likely go with a 2 or 3 band by the same manufacturer as the pup.

    Thanks TB!
