Flexocor - what is this metal protector bit about?

Discussion in 'Strings [DB]' started by mike_odonovan, Nov 16, 2004.

  1. did a search on this and came up with nothin

New Flexocor E string just put on and i notice there is a metal thing called a "protector" in a satchel of its own. oops :eyebrow:

    where does this go?
    can i do without it?
are the other strings supposed to have them as well?? (ie. oops oops oops?)

    cheers

  2. This was only supplied with the E string, right?
It's a kind of curved steel channel?
Goes between the string and bridge.
That was more necessary with solid steel core strings, to round the string angle over the bridge, to prevent breakage.
With modern steel rope-core strings, this isn't necessary at all.

  3. yeh only came with the E string - flexocor '92

    so i don't need it?

    just bin it?

  4. They come with every Pirastro Bass steel E string, in fact.
No, but it doesn't hurt to use it if you wish.
    It's not necessary.
    Your choice! :)

  5. Thanks you so much again francois

you are truly LORD OF THE STRINGS :)
