I'm trying to find the origin of an old bass I recently purchased. There's a partial label - Top line reads "Florence". Line underneath that reads "inni" The bass is very old and has some lamination that I'm not sure is original or added later. The tuners are old-school extended peg type. The neck is wildly flamed maple. Endpin is wood peg. Ebony fingerboard / tailpiece + saddles.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pictures other than the label will probably help. There are some guys on this board who have seen about as many old basses as you can name.

Finally got someone to identify my bass.

It's a (plywood) 1900 Schad made in Butler, PA .

Bruce Wallace (Wallace Bass, Pittsburgh) said that Schad took over the work of Swanson. He even had a rack that came from Schad's estate, and had a few Swansons in his shop.

If anyone has any more info on Schad, I'd like to hear it.

    Thanks!
