I just noticed that when glare from my window hits the bass, I can see a slight impresion in the clear coat, on the top wood, almost a dent, but it follows the wood grain, however, it is only in one spot, not all over the topwood.

In otherwords, the finish isn't perfectly smooth all around.

My other bass has the same thing, just in a different spot.

...anyone else have this?? Is this normal for Fender's? I saw it in one, and was bumming, then I saw it in the other, and was like, hmmm...is this normal?

Sounds like what I saw on a Lakland at the local GC.

It looked to me like the body pieces came together, and shifted, or settled after the finish was applied. On the Lakland, it has a definite indention all down the body right where the body pieces would come together on a 3 piece body design.

Except this happens in no such place. It is in the "grain", not in any seams or joints.

Mine is as smooth as glass. Hope yours isn't bothering you too much.

Checked my two MIA Jazz Deluxe 5's and they're smooth too.

Bet you can get which of my basses has the most finish settling;). I love it anyway and still think it looks great.

    Here's a hint

I see it more in my handbuilt basses than mass-produced ones. It doesn't bother me.

Ah the never ending quest for perfection...

I have a couple of hand built basses that have this phenomena, and it doesn't bother me at all.

  10. Must be a Fender thing. My MIG Warwick is without such a flaw.
