Foam mute trouble

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by Salamenster, Jul 13, 2013.

  1. When I use a foam mute, mostly just a rectangular piece of foam of some sort, my higher strings sound way more muffled than the lower ones. The G has almost NO tone left going higher up the neck (it starts at fret 7!)

    Anyone got any cures?

Cut the foam in a triangle so that there is more contact area on the lower strings, and gradually less as you go higher.

  3. Does that work with a BAII bridge? Do you have any measurements for a foam mute cut like that?

    Thanks. :)

It works with any bridge. Start with a rectangle that is 3/4" by 4", and shave a little at a time until it sounds good to you.

  5. Great! I'll try that! :D
