Fodera bass, walnut and rosewood

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Groovecenter, May 3, 2003.

  1. Im looking at a Fodera Monarch 4 string with a walnut back and rosewood top. Ideally I would want the Alder maple config., but will this wood combination result in a similar tone? Im going to play it today, but would like others input. Thanks, Groove

my guess is that walnut/rosewood would be noticeably different from alder/maple.

check the other current thread on cirrus that's kinda on the same subject of wood combinations...

IME you can only get a general idea of what a bass will sound like from the woods even when all else is equal, simply because there's lots of tonal variation even within the same species. The body wood will be the significant factor; if the top makes a difference at all it will be slight (depends on how thick it is).

Long story short: you'll get to hear it in person before you buy, and that's more than many of us get to do. Hope you like it... be sure to let us know what you think!
