Hi, I want to purchase a set of Fodera 5 string set of nickels. I want the 45-125 gouge but I´m a little confused about it. The shop where I want to purchase says it´s 45-130 but the picture is for 45-125.
Fodera do sets of strings in both gauges. If you email Thomann I'm sure they can tell you which ones are actually in stock though. I think the standard gauge is 45-65-85-105-125 and medium gauge is 45-65-85-105-130.
Fodera offers the following 5-String sets with Low-B strings: Low B - Light: .040 .060 .080 .100 .120 Low B - Ultra Light: .040 .055 .075 .095 .120 Low B - Light Med: .044 .062 .085 .106 .125 Low B - Standard: .045 .065 .085 .105 .125 Low B - Standard: .045 .065 .085 .105 .130 Low B - Heavy: .050 .070 .085 .110 .135 They each have the option of having a Tapered B string as well. As you can see there are two 45-105 options... One with a .125 and one with a .130
Thanks Slapinfunk, it´s great to have people like you giving all this info. I think I´m going with the .040 .060 .080 .100 .120 not tapered. How do you compare them with Sadowsky .040 - .125T ?? The B on the Sadowsky set buzz a little on the 7th fret but maybe because it`s at aprox 1.7mm at 12 fret. And also, above 8-9 fret I hear overtones I don´t like (in the mix they get lost though), maybe cause it´s tapered.
The Fodera strings are pretty different. Fodera's are Round Core so they are a little more flexible and harmonics ring out clearer. They are a little more flexible and bend easier. If you are playing Sadowsky Blue Labels you have a more flexible string but it is still a hex core.
^^ Great than, more reason to try out the Fodera´s. The Sadowsky´s are blue label and are great strings but I look for more flexibility.
