Simply put, a contrabass is any 6-string bass guitar -- essentially it is a "new" instrument that was conceived (for all intents and purposes) by Anthony Jackson. In the Fodera world, an Anthony Jackson Contrabass could be any 6-string bass that they make that features some of AJ's past specs. The Anthony Jackson Presentation is reserved for a 6-string Anthony Jackson Contrabass that fits the EXACT specs that AJ is currently using. Remember that he has gone through 11 iterations of the contrabass, beginning with the first one that he had made by Carl Thompson and ending with #11, which was a 34" scale instrument made by Fodera...he ended up selling that one and to this day uses #10 (also made by Fodera) which is a 36" scale...

In the most general sense, the current Fodera Anthony Jackson Presentation Contrabass is a singlecut body with a single passive pickup and no electronics whatsover: the pickup is wired directly to the output jack. The previous commercially available versions of the Fodera Anthony Jackson Signature Contrabass were double-cutaway bodies with dual pickups and active electronics.

I'm sure there are/were more differences than that, but those were the most obvious.

+1 to the above. Also, the presentation is chambered. Think of the original Contrabass AJ model as basically a different body style of a more 'standard' Fodera and a slightly longer scale length (36"). The current Presentation model is closer to a P Bass type instrument in concept... passive, one pickup in close to P position with no preamp.

  6. everyone here as pretty much said it.

in terms of Fodera models, the presentation is the bass anthony jackson plays currently (36" scale, singlecut, 1 pickup, no pre/controls) and the contrabass is the earlier anthony jackson model (double cut, usually has two soapbar pickups, scale is usually 34" or 36").
