Hey all, Just bought a Gallien-Krueger MB Fusion 800 from GC. It was a floor model and the salesperson eventually had to go scuffling for the foot switch after I insisted several times that the amp comes with a foot switch. He returned with the foot switch but no cable. He was super annoyed when I showed him on the GK site that a foot switch cable was also included. He left again and came back with an ordinary guitar/bass 1/4" mono cable. I asked him if he was sure it wasn't a TRS Stereo 1/4" cable and he said he was sure the cable he brought would work fine. I plugged up the foot switch but it only cycles through one input channel and mute. I believe it's supposed to cycle through both input channels and mute. I couldn't find a lot of info on the internet about the cable but did find one person who says it's a TRS cable. Can anyone confirm? I sent an email to GK support a couple of days ago but haven't heard anything from them. I love the amp so far but have to say I'm not too impressed with GK support. I hope I don't have to deal with them later. I'm not sure if this is a rant about GC floor staff, a rant about GK support or a call out to GK MB owners to confirm which cable is needed for the foot switch (mono or stereo). Mostly the last one.
How many buttons are on the switch? I'm only familiar with the one that came with my MB500 (not Fusion). It only has one button - for boost, and uses a mono cord. I've emailed GK support two or three times, and usually got an answer within about a week. Maybe a little longer. The owners manual should be on their web site too.
Thanks, Bob. Mine has just one button. The owners manual is a little vague but says that the foot switch is used to switch between both channels and mute (tuner). It doesn't say anything about the type of cable.
If it has only one latching button, then it should only require a mono cable, but as per that description of what it does, it might require a TRS plug (stereo). Are you sure there isn't another footswitch for "switch between both channels and mute"? A single button should only do one of those operations.
Weird. Mine just switches between channel 1 and mute. I can't get channel 2 with the foot switch plugged in. Plugging in the foot switch disables the ability to do it by pressing the channel gain buttons. Your pic clearly shows a mono cable. Yours is an MB Fusion 800?
Yeah fusion 800. Just a standard mono cable. I can't get the mute function unless I flip the switch next to the input
I'm pretty sure this is the right foot switch for this amp, at least from what I can gather looking at GK's website. My foot switch also has a red/orange light on it that indicates mute .
MB Fusion 800 Owner's Manual - Page 7 of 8 - Gallien-Krueger Straight from the MB Fusion 800 manual on page 7: That's exactly what mine does. If yours is muting instead, that sounds not so good.
It looks like the foot switch in the pic is identical to mine. It looks like it also has the red/orange mute light on the foot switch. Yours has that too? Does it light up when you use the pedal to switch channels? Mine lights up when muted.
I'm not home right now but I'll test it when I get back. I usually use distortion pedals instead of the channel switching so it's been a while since I used the footswitch
Yeah, you're right. The manual doesn't say anything about mute via foot switch. I wonder where I read that to get it in to my head. Also wonder why there's what appears to be a mute light indicator on my foot switch that goes on when muted. Weird. Really wish I had a TRS cable handy. Appreciate all the help and I'll let you know what I find out.
My MBF800 has the same footswitch and cable as posted above. However, one thing to note is that it isn't just an ordinary 1/4 inch cable. It looks exactly like one, but if you try to use it as one, you'll get a ton of buzz and distortion. Never tried using a normal 1/4 inch for it, so can't say if it works in that direction...
