I'm such a tech novice. Is there such a thing as a foot switchable preamp with a bank of custumizable EQ settings? Chad
Ummmm a Line 6 Bass Pod xt Live???? Buy a power amp, hook up the Line 6 to act as the Pre-amp and toggle between all sorts of different EQ's, amps, pedals, and compression which you create and store in different banks... Right?
The only line 6 that I have seen was a small thing with knobs...and not foot switchable. Perhaps there are others out there that I don't know about? Chad
How about the Tech 21 Sansamp programmable bass driver DI? Three programmable channels, each with a footswitch - you just set the eq how you want it, hit the footswitch twice and it's saved. Simple, good quality, not ridiculously expensive.
FWIW: Not my area but I'm guessing there's a lot more than what's been mentioned. Preamp stuff in this forum is geared toward onboard preamps. If you do a TB search I suspect plenty will come up - mostly in the effects forum I would think.
The line 6 stuff will do that; they make a foot controller specifically for their stuff, and I'm pretty sure you could change programs with any MIDI foot controller. I use an ADA MB-1 (programmable bass preamp, discontinued a long time ago) with an ART foot controller. I think Yamaha and Ampeg are both making bass amps with multiple presets, but they've only got like 6 or 8 presets available. Probably enough for most folks, but I like having at least 4 or 5 presets that are dialed in just right for each of my basses, plus some special effects kind of stuff, so that's not nearly enough for me. I'm pretty sure that the Line6 stuff has a lot more presets than that......my MB-1 has 128 presets available (I think there's a way to get 256 out of it, but I've never needed the extra capacity). Tech21 (Sansamp) also makes the PSA1.1, which has 128 memory locations, but it's more guitar-oriented than bass, I think. Not a whole lot of EQ, mostly different crunchy sounds. Also ART used to have a programmable preamp called a NightBass; may have been discontinued by now, I'm not sure. I didn't think they sounded very good when I tried one years ago.
Actually amp forum. Effects would be more stomp box DI's. Anyway, a search of "all forums" would be the way to go first round.
You know I love these forums...and I've been on your side of the whole search issue...BUT....I did a search and pulled up several pages that had nothing to do with my specific question. But, I thank you guys for your input. And I do have some options to check out now. Thanks, Chad
Mesa Boogie makes one for them guitarist. if you are willing to shell out all that money, you might want to contact them for a special Bass version or something. http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Rackmount-Preamps/TriAxis/triaxis.html i might be wrong, but John Myung of Dream Theater had one of those customized to work with bass.
