...I can't think of any other bass that gets as much commentary around here as the P Bass does.

    (Hey, what's one more?....:roflmao:)

When the one trick is to sit perfectly in the mix...that's a helluva trick!

Indeed! I've always said that about Precision basses. Maybe just one trick, but it's quite the trick!...:D

It's an even more remarkable trick when you think about all the different mixes a Precision has sat perfectly in.

Considering how many different genres a P bass is used in, calling it a one trick pony is really just stupid.

There was a thread yesterday about removing frets from a Precision neck to make it fretless, and that got me thinking. As we all know Leo called it a Precision bass because it had frets and so it could be played with precision. So if you remove the frets from a Precision, is it no longer a Precision?

That would make it a Fender Incision.

I agree, what is this "one trick" P bass sound.....Jamerson? Dee Dee Ramone? Pino? Steve Harris?

I hope I live to see the day where all Ps are replaced with headless multiscale ibanez basses with rounds and no tort. :)

  16. Probably because it’s the most owned, and used bass on the planet might have something to do with it. Just a guess.

I dunno. I think the same could be said about the Spector sound. Or the Ken Smith sound. I’ll agree that the P sound is one that works for most people in most situations, however, for people like me, most of the time it leaves MUCH to be desired.
