If there are any USACG 5-string owners reading, I have one question: At the last fret, what is the distance from the edge of the outer strings (E or G) to the edge of the fingerboard? (Assuming your bass is set up with .75" spacing at the bridge) I usually like to have a little more of a "ledge" at the last fret than at the nut, which is typically 1/8". This will help me to decide on the bridge. Thanks in advance!
USA custom guitars in Washington state does basically what Warmoth does. I need a backup bass and wanted to do a semi-custom parts bass. You from Greenville, huh? I'm an ECU alum and I have some fond memories of that place. The Fizz, back in the day...
Yep. Lived here off and on since 1990. But came here a lot growing up. At 42 I'm back in school at Pitt but will probably take a teaching position there and keep going to school at ECU myself. My wife did her med school at ECU as well. You an NC native? Back on topic. I am in the process of doing the same thing. I'm figuring out what I want on a parts bass. Perhaps I need to research this USACG.
Most people find that the parts bass approach doesn't save any $ if you pay for a finish job. I can get 75% of what I'm looking for a bass hanging on the wall at the store, but I'd rather not buy something and have to modify it- plus I enjoy finishing wood! (Wilmington native)
That's exactly what I was thinking as well. I love my Fender Roscoe Beck but there are a few things I would "tweek". So I'm thinking I will build one already tweeked. (We'll be down at the beach house in Surf City down the street from Wilmington for the next 5 days. ) Anyway, hope I didn't hijack. Good luck with your build.
Update: USACG does a P5, no problem. Rob is great to work with and was very patient. I will post pics as the project gets going.
