Found a rare Dean 10-string! But look at this rout job!

They swapped out the original pickups for some BassLines and routed a different size for them. But as you can see...

I just can't get past it! :crying: I'll stick to my octaver when I need it...

I'll still try it out later today, but I don't see myself buying it.

    what a shame.

  3. Why is that a shame? are the baselines a downgrade? What was stock? I had a Dean w/Generic SD pickups, I didn’t think they were bad pick ups, maybe not great but not terrible by any means. You want to upgrade, pop in Nordstrand big singles. Add pickup rings if it really bothers you. I don’t look at my basses when I’m playing them. I care more about tone/playability.

It's not that bad. At least it's consistent. Just tell people that little bit of missing tonewood ups the mids.

It's really not that bad. It's not good but it's not awful.

It's even worse in person

I just can't do it. A rare bird ruined!

If I got it for a song and dance, er maybe just a song, then I'd be on a quest to find pups that would fix the overall width and length and probably hunt for eternity and then if I did find something it would probably suck, but look good....

    But that is just me.

I guess you could always tell everyone it is the semi-acoustic version? mwaaaawwwwww :roflmao::laugh::smug::roflmao::laugh::D:roflmao::smug:

    How much is it?

That would determine whether I could look past it or not.

Received a gift from Sire* (see sig)
It'd be easy enough to get over for the right price, and a ramp to cover wouldn't be all that hard.

  13. Ramp, pickup rings, pick gard.
    Hey it can be hidden.
If the price is reasonable and it sounds good, go for it!

Or just save time and trouble and send it to me.
    I'll close my eyes.

I hate that kind of finish for a bass but I want one of those 10 strings SO BAD! I'd even overlook the finish and routing!

I did manage to score a 10 string bridge and anchor from Dean before they went out of stock and one day I'll have to find the time to build a 10 string
SOMETHING! My 8 string is cool but a 10 string would be heaven!

Seen worse. Some pickup bezels would cover the holes.

It doesn't bother me. It's a dean, not a vintage collectible.
If it sounds good and the price is right. It's all good

If it plays and sounds good and the price is right I would get it anyway. Easy to cover those poor routes up with some type of custom made bezels.

Why can't a Dean be a vintage collectible? These were rare and hard to find a decade ago! Find me another 10-string that's being sold in big box stores for an affordable price.

Wait for the non-hacked one...you'll be glad you did. I've been having G.A.S. for one of these and TANFW I'd buy that hacked up piece of wood.
