This popped up on the local craigs for $50. Speakers are (not original) blown but the cab is overall good shape for its age. I have a couple of brand new 15s I can throw in it. If it sounds good, great. If not I'll research other speakers for the cab. Dose anyone know where I can get more of the black caps that the amp feet are supposed to sit in? The cab is missing three of them. Pics... Need to find these caps
Nice cab! With car subs it would have sounded bad anyway. Those cups look different than on the 106/107 cabs. IIRC Fender cab cups worked just fine.
Did a search for those cups but I'm not finding anything.. And I noticed I transposed the model number, it is a 402, not a 204...lol
Take a look at http://unofficialacousticcontrolcorpmessageboard.yuku.com/ . Several years back, a member by the forum name of Pirk, had a bunch of these made and forum members bought most, if not all, of them. He may still have some or had some more made. Look for him on the forum. Another possible source is Tony in Florida. Last address I had for him is [email protected]. I may have some of those put back, but not sure where at the moment, so if you have no luck, check back with me. Not sure what speakers were in there originally, but my 1973 106 cab has original Eminence with the metal dust cap that has the opening in the middle. I also could have some of those or CTS period correct 15's put back somewhere.
Nice cab, congrats! Put some good speakers in there and it will sound great. I still have mine. It needs a lot of work though.
Great deal on a classic cab. Load it with a couple of Eminence 15's and you'll be good to go. If you can find a pair of JBL M151's for a good price you'll be blown away with the sound that comes out of this thing.
Yup! I used polyester batting on my old acoustic 408 and it improved the sound greatly. That cab looks in fair condition, it would be a hell of a good cab with a pair of Fital PR400's.
Sweet cab. I play pretty every single one if my gigs with a 402 with the white capped Eminence speakers. Love it. Question for the guys who have lined theirs with foam. How is the sound changed?
Back in the late '70s I used this cab and replaced the stock drivers with EV 15s. It sounded great coupled with the 450 head. Loud, clean and pretty portable despite its size.
I had one about 10 years ago. It was one of the best sounding cabs I've ever had. One of the speakers was blown and it was noticable at certain frequencies. I had the speakers re-coned and when I got it back it sounded horrible. All of that great midrange response that it originally had was sucked out of it.
Ok...I'm sorry OP but I hate you now Good find on that cab! Jealousy is what fuels that hatred btw, it hurts even worse that it was in Houston as well!! No room for it with my Fender Rumbles though. Yeesh, again congrats on a killer find at a killer price.
If it sounds good with my current setup (Peavey TB-Raxx into a Crown XLS1000 Drivecore bridged) then I'm probably going to get one of the new Micro heads that is supposed to coming out soon to pair it up with..
